We already published the list of best PSP games of all time, now it’s time to discover the best PSP beat ’em up games of all time.
With amazing titles available, the PSP definitely has a great library of beat ’em up games.
So, if you’re a fan of both the PSP and beat ’em up games, there’s a chance you’ll like this list.
And some of you may already know some of the games mentioned in this list.
#10. Undead Knights
- Release Data: Now Production/Tecmo, 2009
- Genre: Action » Beat-‘Em-Up » 3D
There’s nothing entirely terrible about Undead Knights, except for maybe the soldiers that infinitely spawn out of nowhere.
The action remains so simple and unremarkable when many similar games exist for the PSP.
This is especially true when you consider that creating a zombie army doesn’t let you do anything more exciting than demolish an iron gate.
#9. Eragon
- Release Data: Amaze Entertainment/Sierra Entertainment, 2006
- Genre: Action » Beat-‘Em-Up » 3D
If you can forgive the game’s problems, you’ll find some exciting and enjoyable moments in the game.
The multiplayer is clearly the focus of this game, and it is actually somewhat enjoyable.
Particularly impressive is the generous game-sharing feature that lets you play this game unrestricted with friends who don’t own copies of their own.
#8. Dynasty Warriors
- Release Data: Omega Force/Koei, 2005
- Genre: Action » Beat-‘Em-Up » 3D
If you’re looking for an action game to play in quick bursts, or you’re simply a hardcore fan, Dynasty Warriors will likely fits the bill.
The action is repetitive enough, especially in light of its many existing console-bound iterations, so that those who’ve already had their fill of the Dynasty Warriors formula won’t find much new here.
#7. Warriors Orochi
- Release Data: Omega Force/Koei, 2008
- Genre: Action » Beat-‘Em-Up » 3D
Impressively adding all the elements from both Koei hack-and-slash games, Warriors Orochi is true to the series but shows us nothing genuinely or refreshingly new.
Repetitive gameplay aside, the game’s few flaws don’t take away from the action or cool options. This is strictly for the fans.
#6. Samurai Warriors: State of War
- Release Data: Omega Force/Koei, 2006
- Genre: Action » Beat-‘Em-Up » 3D
No doubt, if you enjoyed Samurai Warriors on consoles, you’ll take at least something positive away from State of War.
It’s very much the same formula translated reasonably well onto a handheld platform.
Though good beat ’em up games aren’t exactly in abundance on the PSP, it’s still hard to recommend State of War to all but the most dedicated fans.
#5. Viewtiful Joe: Red Hot Rumble
- Release Data: Clover Studio/Capcom, 2006
- Genre: Action » Beat-‘Em-Up » 2D
It packs in all the style of the Viewtiful Joe games, which is great, but there just isn’t enough room on the screen to contain the action.
Its heart is in the right place, but the game lacks focus and feels disorganized.
However, Viewtiful Joe fans will appreciate all the characters and the game’s look and feel.
#4. Dynasty Warriors: Strikeforce
- Release Data: Omega Force/Koei, 2009
- Genre: Action » Beat-‘Em-Up » 3D
Dynasty Warriors: Strikeforce significantly improves the troublesome aspects of the PSP original, but its combat is still too shallow to hold your attention for long.
In short, Strikeforce offers a modest leap over its predecessors, so only hardcore fans will be interested in this title.
#3. Kenka Bancho: Badass Rumble
- Release Data: Bullets/Spike, 2009
- Genre: Action » Beat-‘Em-Up » 3D
It’s not a perfect game, but it has a lot of ideas and a great hook. There’s plenty of exciting action, tons of boss fights and a whole city to explore.
If you can get over the game’s shortcomings, you’ll discover that Kenka Bancho is worth fighting for!
#2. Hammerin’ Hero
- Release Data: Irem, 2009
- Genre: Action » Beat-‘Em-Up » 2D
There’s a lot to like about an enjoyable platform game like Hammerin’ Hero and even more so if you like a game that tips its hat to classic beat ’em up games.
While the combat isn’t very exciting, the levels will keep fans of the genre entertained in a game that is the perfect pick for gamers of all ages.
#1. The Warriors
- Release Data: Rockstar Leeds/Take-Two Interactive, 2007
- Genre: Action » Beat-‘Em-Up » 3D
Once again, Rockstar manages to do an amazing job porting one of their games and does so nearly flawlessly.
The Warriors for the PSP is still one highly enjoyable brawler that now makes one seriously addictive portable game with a lot to offer.
If you haven’t played this game on a console, do yourself a favor and pick up this one.
