We already published the list of best DS games of all time, now it’s time to discover the best DS open world games of all time.
With amazing titles available, the DS definitely has a great library of open world games.
So, if you’re a fan of both the DS and open world games, there’s a chance you’ll like this list.
And some of you may already know some of the games mentioned in this list.
#5. C.O.P.: The Recruit
- Release Data: Velez & Dubail/Ubisoft, 2009
- Genre: Action Adventure » Open-World
It has a few design flaws that detract from the gameplay, particularly in terms of simple usability.
If you’ve played any open world GTA off-shoot before you’ll find little in C.O.P. to surprise you, but if you’re after a more casual title in the genre then this game comes highly recommended.
#4. Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime
- Release Data: TOSE/Square Enix, 2006
- Genre: Action Adventure » Open-World
If you’re one of those people who likes open world games with cute critters and a “gotta catch ’em all” mentality, this game makes a good fit.
Likewise, if you’re a fan of the Dragon Quest series, there’s enough nostalgia and genuine amusement to make Rocket Slime worth checking out.
#3. The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks
- Release Data: Nintendo, 2009
- Genre: Action Adventure » Open-World
If you can’t get enough of Link’s adventures, you’ll find plenty in Spirit Tracks to satiate your appetite for sliding block puzzles, treasure chests, trade quests and the like.
And even though at times it feels too much like a retread of past games, it puts most other DS titles to shame with its overall quality.
#2. The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass
- Release Data: Nintendo, 2007
- Genre: Action Adventure » Open-World
But really, even if you’re convinced you hate the notion of touch-screen controls, you owe it to yourself to give this game a try.
There are few games on the DS that take advantage of the touch-screen technology as well as Phantom Hourglass does. It’s a must-play for any DS owner.
#1. Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars
- Release Data: Rockstar Leeds/Rockstar Games, 2009
- Genre: Action Adventure » Open-World
Perhaps what’s most amazing about GTA Chinatown Wars is that it doesn’t feel like a scaled-down handheld version of a GTA game.
And don’t let the art style or the presence of simple minigames fool you; Chinatown Wars is every bit as deserving of its mature rating as previous games. It’s definitely one of the best GTA games.
