#25. WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2011
- Release Data: Yuke’s/THQ, 2010
- Genre: Sports » Individual » Combat » Wrestling
Smackdown vs. Raw 2011 delivers the same solid action, extensive customization options, and robust creation tools that the series has been providing for years, making it one of the best wrestling games around.
There are some improvements and some new elements, but the core action of the game remains largely the same.
#24. EA Sports MMA
- Release Data: EA Tiburon/EA Sports, 2010
- Genre: Sports » Individual » Combat » Boxing / Martial Arts
The career mode is excellent, and the overall presentation is well done.
The fighting engine is solid, though there are a few odd mechanical choices in play, and the career mode is very deep and time-consuming in a good way.
In the end, MMA fans and fighting fans alike will enjoy the game.
#23. WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2009
- Release Data: Yuke’s/THQ, 2008
- Genre: Sports » Individual » Combat » Wrestling
While some elements still need improvement, SmackDown vs. Raw 2009 is ultimately successful because it embraces the dramatic fights and outrageous showmanship that are the heart and soul of the WWE.
Whilst the deep control scheme can feel awkward at times, especially if you’re a newcomer, if you have the time the rewards are there for the taking.
#22. Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08
- Release Data: EA Salt Lake/EA Sports, 2007
- Genre: Sports » Individual » Golf » Sim
In short, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08 boils down to a few additions, but not much change overall.
However, this isn’t just a golf game, it’s a golfing experience.
This is as close to being outdoors playing as you can get without leaving your house.
#21. Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11
- Release Data: EA Sports, 2010
- Genre: Sports » Individual » Golf » Sim
Even if you have little interest in the Ryder Cup, and don’t anticipate playing with the true-aim system, the introduction of focus along with a host of other less significant improvements out on the course still make this the golf game to own.
#20. Top Spin 4
- Release Data: 2K Czech/2K Sports, 2011
- Genre: Sports » Individual » Tennis
Top Spin 4 is tennis at its best.
From the start, you’re never in any doubt as to the authenticity of its simulation, thanks to the tight controls, great visuals, and in-depth career modes that make you feel like a professional tennis player trying to reach the top.
#19. Skate 3
- Release Data: EA Black Box/EA Games, 2010
- Genre: Sports » Individual » Skate / Skateboard
Skate 3 isn’t likely to win you over if its predecessors failed to do so, but it does a great job of catering to newcomers and experienced players alike, and it’s one of very few games that makes even the act of failing doing tricks and breaking your own bones fun.
#18. Virtua Tennis 3
- Release Data: Sega AM3/Sega, 2007
- Genre: Sports » Individual » Tennis
Although Virtua Tennis 3 doesn’t feel vastly different from its predecessor, the tweaks and additions go a long way toward making the game feel fresh.
There are many ways to stay occupied, and it’s easy to pick up and play.
The PS3 version isn’t the best one, but it’s still a good enough title.
#17. WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2010
- Release Data: Yuke’s/THQ, 2009
- Genre: Sports » Individual » Combat » Wrestling
A few shortcomings keeps this title from being perfect but SmackDown Vs. Raw 2010 is everything a fan could want in a wrestling game and more.
It offers a lot of subtle improvements over the previous game and includes a lot of new, diverse content.
#16. Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07
- Release Data: EA Redwood Shores/EA Sports, 2006
- Genre: Sports » Individual » Golf » Sim
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07 is a great game, and the improvement shows that that EA isn’t content to maintain the status quo.
If you’re searching for a great round of video game golf, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07 is what you’re looking for.
#15. Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10
- Release Data: EA Tiburon/Electronic Arts, 2009
- Genre: Sports » Individual » Golf » Sim
As golf games go, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 is tough to beat.
There really is something for everyone with even a passing interest in golf in this sizeable package, and although there’s clearly still some room for improvement, it’s well worth a look even if you already own the previous game.
#14. SSX
- Release Data: EA Canada/EA Sports, 2012
- Genre: Sports » Individual » Ski / Snowboard
The action is so good that you can lose yourself in the moment, joyously tricking and speeding your way down some of the most majestic mountains in the world.
It also improves on its predecessors in every way, with outstanding tracks, intuitive controls, amazing visuals, and fantastic multiplayer options that lets you compete with your friends.
#13. Fight Night Round 3
- Release Data: EA Chicago/EA Sports, 2006
- Genre: Sports » Individual » Combat » Boxing / Martial Arts
EA Sports’ heavy-hitting franchise doesn’t change up its approach for the third time through, but the gameplay remains as tight and enjoyable as it has always been.
So while there are no surprises in store, you can expect a great game of boxing, with a fully capable single-player experience backing up an excellent multiplayer game.
#12. Hot Shots Golf: Out of Bounds
- Release Data: Clap Hanz/SCEI, 2008
- Genre: Sports » Individual » Golf » Arcade
Hot Shots Golf: Out of Bounds is a tremendously fun golf game, one that should appease either casual or hardcore golf fans.
It’s an arcade-like approach to the sport, for sure, but there’s still a good deal of depth in the game that’ll give veteran players plenty to work with.
#11. Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09
- Release Data: EA Tiburon/Electronic Arts, 2008
- Genre: Sports » Individual » Golf » Sim
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09, like so many other sports games, doesn’t have a headlining feature but the handful of new additions perform fairly well.
Some more courses would have been nice, but otherwise, there’s very little not to like with Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09.
#10. Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12: The Masters
- Release Data: Electronic Arts, 2011
- Genre: Sports » Individual » Golf » Sim
Although Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12: The Masters can’t be considered any sort of golfing evolution due to its reliance on many of the same features and mechanics found in its predecessor, the addition of one of pro golf’s premier events is a great addition.
#9. Hustle Kings
- Release Data: VooFoo Studios/SCEA, 2010
- Genre: Sports » Individual » Billiards
With a large set of cue sport games available and some very enjoyable gameplay, Hustle Kings provides a great experience for fans of snooker and is so far one of the best representations of the sports.
With good use of the Move controller to enhance an already solid package, this comes highly recommended.
#8. Skate 2
- Release Data: EA Black Box/EA Games, 2009
- Genre: Sports » Individual » Skate / Skateboard
This title is going to be tough to pick up for newcomers but if you persevere with the controls you will soon be pulling off tricks like a pro.
And even if you’ve played a lot of the first Skate, there are definitely enough new features and improvements in Skate 2 to make it worth a look.
#7. Pool Nation
- Release Data: Cherry Pop Games, 2013
- Genre: Sports » Individual » Billiards
Pool Nation isn’t a perfect pool game, but it’s a huge step up from what’s come before.
If you’re not already a billiards fan, Pool Nation won’t make you one. Conversely, for those dying to scratch the billiards itch, Pool Nation is sure to satisfy.
Overall, it is the best pool game on the PS3.
#6. Fight Night Champion
- Release Data: EA Canada/EA Sports, 2011
- Genre: Sports » Individual » Combat » Boxing / Martial Arts
The story-driven Champion mode is an entertaining addition, and once you get into the Legacy mode you might find that it’s hard to put down your controller.
And there’s a great deal of fun to be had with friends, pitting great boxers from different eras against each other in fights that would no doubt have been fascinating in real life.
#5. UFC Undisputed 2009
- Release Data: THQ, 2009
- Genre: Sports » Individual » Combat » Wrestling
The career mode is fun and well-designed, the combat is cool and visually engaging, and the classic fights mode is sure to please UFC hardcore fans.
But, still, UFC 2009 Undisputed is a great fighting game that you don’t have to be a fan of the sports to appreciate.
#4. Skate
- Release Data: EA Black Box/EA Games, 2007
- Genre: Sports » Individual » Skate / Skateboard
While Skate has a handful of issues that hold it back, it has a ton of potential.
With some more refinement and a few more things to do, this could probably be the best skateboarding game around.
It’s definitely worth playing, if only to get your hands on the trick system.
#3. UFC Undisputed 3
- Release Data: Yuke’s/THQ, 2012
- Genre: Sports » Individual » Combat » Wrestling
Like the best MMA fighting games, UFC Undisputed 3 is well-rounded and impresses in a lot of different areas.
It improves upon its predecessors at practically every opportunity and, for quite some time, is the undisputed champion of MMA video games.
#2. UFC Undisputed 2010
- Release Data: Yuke’s/THQ, 2010
- Genre: Sports » Individual » Combat » Wrestling
Clearly, UFC Undisputed 2010 is a game with its fair share of problems.
You shouldn’t let that put you off, though, because this is also a game that brilliantly re-creates the mixed martial arts combat that has made the UFC so popular and that boasts a roster of more than 100 great-looking contemporary fighters.
#1. Fight Night Round 4
- Release Data: EA Canada/EA Sports, 2009
- Genre: Sports » Individual » Combat » Boxing / Martial Arts
Fight Night Round 4‘s greatest strength is that while it’s accessible and relatively easy for newcomers, it can also be challenging and rewarding for perfectionists.
Stepping into Fight Night Round 4‘s ring is definitely recommended if you have any interest in the sport.
