We already published the list of best GBA games of all time, now it’s time to discover the best GBA matching puzzle games of all time.
With amazing titles available, the GBA definitely has a great library of matching puzzle games.
So, if you’re a fan of both the GBA and matching puzzle games, there’s a chance you’ll like this list.
And some of you may already know some of the games mentioned in this list.
#5. Classic NES Series: Dr. Mario
- Release Data: Nintendo, 2004
- Genre: Puzzle » Matching
The GBA version of Dr. Mario is a great emulation of the original NES game.
The production values of the game don’t quite measure up to today’s standards even for a puzzle game, but the gameplay has held up well.
If you were a big fan of the original, Dr. Mario is a worthy game.
#4. Super Bust-A-Move
- Release Data: Taito Corporation/Ubisoft, 2001
- Genre: Puzzle » Matching
The PlayStation 2 version drew sharp criticism for bringing nothing new to the series, but Super Bust-A-Move comes into its own on the GBA.
Although it’s an amalgam of older efforts and could have used a few more gameplay modes, this is the first handheld version of Bust-A-Move that’s both playable and visually appealing.
#3. Dr. Mario / Puzzle League
- Release Data: TOSE/Nintendo, 2005
- Genre: Puzzle » Matching
If you’re a puzzle game fanatic, you won’t go wrong adding Dr. Mario/Puzzle League to your collection.
Sure, the overall presentation is lacking energy, but the gameplay in both games, particularly Puzzle League, is compelling enough to keep you coming back time and time again.
#2. Super Puzzle Fighter II
- Release Data: Atomic Planet Entertainment/Capcom, 2003
- Genre: Puzzle » Matching
While it may not be a pixel-perfect port, Super Puzzle Fighter II for the Game Boy Advance plays very well, and still stands as one of the best Tetris-style puzzle games ever made.
Purists may find the slowdown a little disappointing, but people looking for a great GBA puzzle game certainly won’t go wrong here.
#1. Puyo Pop
- Release Data: Sonic Team/Sega, 2002
- Genre: Puzzle » Matching
If you’ve never tried Puyo Puyo before, then Puyo Pop for the Game Boy Advance is an excellent introduction.
If you’re a Puyo Puyo fan, then you won’t find much new stuff in Puyo Pop, but it’s certainly a lot more portable than the PlayStation or Saturn releases.
