We already published the list of best GBA games of all time, now it’s time to discover the best GBA action puzzle games of all time.
With amazing titles available, the GBA definitely has a great library of action puzzle games.
So, if you’re a fan of both the GBA and action puzzle games, there’s a chance you’ll like this list.
And some of you may already know some of the games mentioned in this list.
#10. Classic NES Series: Bomberman
- Release Data: Hudson/Nintendo, 2004
- Genre: Puzzle » Action
The original Bomberman is rereleased as part of the Classic NES Series, which repackages old NES games for the GBA.
However, a Bomberman game without multiplayer is hardly a Bomberman game at all.
So while this may be a nearly perfect port of the original NES game, that game really wasn’t very good to begin with.
#9. Tang Tang
- Release Data: GameVision/Take-Two Interactive, 2001
- Genre: Puzzle » Action
On the whole, it may seem as if Take-Two has published the worst puzzle game.
Although it is indeed short, easy, and unimpressive, Tang Tang may actually find a welcome audience with younger game players, as well as those who just love block-creation puzzle games.
#8. Mr. Driller 2
- Release Data: Namco, 2005
- Genre: Puzzle » Action
All in all, Mr. Driller 2 is a game worth owning simply because the core game is fun and challenging.
However, if aspects like graphics, audio, and variety of play modes matter to you, you may want to pass on it.
#7. Bomberman Max 2: Blue Advance
- Release Data: Hudson/Sierra Entertainment, 2002
- Genre: Puzzle » Action
This game would have been great if the poor level structure, annoying level tasks, and pointless Battle Game weren’t present.
But, it’s not, so this game isn’t all that good. Only the true die-hard Bomberman fans with a lot of time on their hands should try this one.
#6. Planet Monsters
- Release Data: Planet Interactive/Titus Software, 2001
- Genre: Puzzle » Action
Planet Monsters doesn’t bring much to this already well-established genre—it doesn’t present an original game design nor is it a particularly compelling experience.
It does, however, provide you with a moderately entertaining puzzle game based on a true classic that holds up well to this day.
#5. Bomberman Max 2: Red Advance
- Release Data: Hudson/Sierra Entertainment, 2002
- Genre: Puzzle » Action
On its own merits, Bomberman MAX 2 is a fun action puzzle game with a decent collecting aspect and a few fun minigames.
At the same time, the absence of an original Bomberman battle mode is sure to disappoint longtime fans of the franchise.
#4. Kuru Kuru Kururin
- Release Data: Eighting/Raizing/Nintendo, 2016
- Genre: Puzzle » Action
It may start off a little too easy but there’s not much to fault with this title. It may not take too long to clear the levels but doing it without error is a tough challenge.
But if you’re looking for a fun game that’s a bit different, Kuru Kuru Kururin is certainly worthy of your consideration.
#3. The Lost Vikings
- Release Data: Mass Media/Blizzard Entertainment, 2003
- Genre: Puzzle » Action
If you’re a fan of puzzle games and never had the chance to play The Lost Vikings when it was available for the PC, Super NES, or Genesis, then you’ll probably get a decent amount of enjoyment out of this GBA version.
#2. Boulder Dash EX
- Release Data: Vision Works/Kemco, 2002
- Genre: Puzzle » Action
The story and cutscenes are a little on the tacky side, and the graphics might not be the most elaborate seen on the GBA, but Boulder Dash EX is quite a fun, little surprise.
And the multiplayer mode, only requiring a single cartridge for up to four players, is another addition that makes the game worth having.
#1. Bomberman Tournament
- Release Data: Amble/Hudson, 2001
- Genre: Puzzle » Action
It’s a Bomberman game with both a decent one-player mode and the multiplayer we’ve grown to love in one awesome package.
Bomberman fans are advised to pick this up instantly. Newcomers to Bomberman may want to see the gameplay first before committing but it is certainly a perfect introduction to the series.
