And some of you may already know some of the games mentioned in this list.
#10. Magna Carta 2
- Release Data: SoftMax/Bandai Namco Games, 2009
- Genre: Role-Playing » Japanese-Style
If you’re fine with buying a game that will feel like you’ve probably played it before, by all means give Magna Carta 2 a shot.
Overall, this is a game with a unique, twisting story with likable, engaging characters and a deep, entertaining battle system.
#9. Enchanted Arms
- Release Data: From Software/Ubisoft, 2006
- Genre: Role-Playing » Japanese-Style
While you can finish Enchanted Arms in about 40 hours, it will take you considerably longer if you spend the time to find all of the golems.
If you have the patience for it, you’ll find that Enchanted Arms is a good first effort for RPGs on the Xbox 360, even if it isn’t a very original one.
#8. Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII
- Release Data: Square Enix, 2014
- Genre: Role-Playing » Japanese-Style
All in all, Lightning Returns is an okay title in the Final Fantasy series and can actually be a stand alone title even if you haven’t played the other games, though you will likely enjoy it more if you have.
With dynamic gameplay and a great story, this title should be in your gaming library.
#7. Resonance of Fate
- Release Data: Tri-Ace/Sega, 2010
- Genre: Role-Playing » Japanese-Style
Resonance of Fate is for the hardcore JRPG fan.
It can be difficult and confusing, and requires a lot of grinding and heavy lifting to make it through to the end.
In the end, Resonance of Fate won’t go down as a classic RPG, but it will give those looking for something different a nice adventure.
#6. Blue Dragon
- Release Data: Mistwalker/Microsoft Game Studios, 2007
- Genre: Role-Playing » Japanese-Style
If you’re into role-playing games, you’ll find that Blue Dragon is long and mostly playable, but it doesn’t give you much back for all the time you’ll spend on it.
But for those needing a solid traditional role-playing experience on Xbox 360, Blue Dragon will definitely fit the bill.
#5. Final Fantasy XIII-2
- Release Data: Square Enix, 2012
- Genre: Role-Playing » Japanese-Style
Final Fantasy XIII-2 isn’t a full blown return to the classic Final Fantasy games many people know and love, but it offers a great deal more invention, exploration and classic fun than its predecessor.
The story and characters are a little weak in places but it is hard not to get swept along by the charm of it all.
#4. Lost Odyssey
- Release Data: Mistwalker/Microsoft Game Studios, 2008
- Genre: Role-Playing » Japanese-Style
Getting the most out of Lost Odyssey will require a bit of patience, even from those used to the slower pace of the genre.
However, the gameplay subtleties and character-driven narrative are rewarding enough to make it worth the occasional frustration.
#3. Eternal Sonata
- Release Data: Tri-Crescendo/Bandai Namco Games, 2007
- Genre: Role-Playing » Japanese-Style
You might find Eternal Sonata to be relatively short if you are a fan of Japanese RPGs.
It clocks in at around 30 hours in a leisurely playthrough, but it’s worth noting that there is little filler in the gameplay or story.
The game gets to the point with a smart battle system and a world that will amaze you.
#2. Fable III
- Release Data: Lionhead Studios/Microsoft Game Studios, 2010
- Genre: Role-Playing » Japanese-Style
The outstanding artistic design and great sense of humor make it worth playing, but the other aspects have been streamlined to such a high degree that their simple pleasures have been lessened.
While you shouldn’t expect everything to run smoothly, it’s definitely a joy to be immersed into Fable III‘s magical world.
#1. Final Fantasy XIII
- Release Data: Square Enix, 2010
- Genre: Role-Playing » Japanese-Style
If you can sit through a painfully slow beginning, then Final Fantasy XIII is as rewarding as any JRPG on the console.
With a fantastic score, traditionally convoluted story and stunning visuals, you’ll be getting your money’s worth and more than a few hours entertainment out of it.
