We already published the list of best PS2 games of all time, now it’s time to discover the best PS2 RTS games of all time.
With amazing titles available, the PS2 definitely has a great library of RTS games.
So, if you’re a fan of both the PS2 and RTS games, there’s a chance you’ll like this list.
And some of you may already know some of the games mentioned in this list.
#10. Goblin Commander: Unleash the Horde
- Release Data: Jaleco Entertainment, 2003
- Genre: Strategy » Real-Time » General
Though experienced PC RTS players may find Goblin Commander to be somewhat shallow, it’s still a pretty decent RTS game for console players, with an interface that is nicely streamlined for controllers.
If you’re looking for a strategy game that isn’t overly complex or difficult, Goblin Commander is highly recommended.
#9. Commandos 2: Men of Courage
- Release Data: Pyro Studios/Eidos Interactive, 2002
- Genre: Strategy » Real-Time » General
Commandos 2 is even better than the first—its design is much more focused, the missions are more involved, and the expanded options for your commandos are all excellent.
As a result, the game will certainly appeal to most anyone who likes a challenge for both the mind and the reflexes.
#8. Full Spectrum Warrior: Ten Hammers
- Release Data: Pandemic Studios/THQ, 2006
- Genre: Strategy » Real-Time » General
Full Spectrum Warrior: Ten Hammers provides some interesting control upgrades, as well as a longer campaign, plus a new adversarial multiplayer mode.
However, the overall feel of the game is still very similar to the original, which should please those who liked the first one, but may turn off those who are looking for a more noticeable change.
#7. Army Men: RTS
- Release Data: Pandemic Studios/Capcom, 2002
- Genre: Strategy » Real-Time » General
The smart control scheme virtually eliminates the control problems inherent in RTS console games, and the varied mission objectives keep the game engaging all the way through.
Hardcore RTS fans might find the game’s simplistic nature a little off-putting, but casual fans of the genre should definitely check it out.
#6. Kessen III
- Release Data: Koei, 2005
- Genre: Strategy » Real-Time » General
It can be a tough order to make a strategy game that’s easy to just pick up and play, but Kessen III is both accessible and enjoyable.
While some of the action has a tendency to get repetitious, when that action consists of smashing large numbers of troops against one another in huge battles, most action aficionados won’t mind terribly.
#5. Kessen II
- Release Data: Koei, 2001
- Genre: Strategy » Real-Time » General
With its intuitive interface, reduced strategy elements, and complex cinematics and storyline, Kessen II is designed to appeal to a more mainstream audience.
Although the game achieves those goals marvelously by bringing you closer to the action, fans of the original game might miss the emphasis on advanced war strategy.
#4. Full Spectrum Warrior
- Release Data: Pandemic Studios/THQ, 2005
- Genre: Strategy » Real-Time » General
Most military buffs probably won’t get past Full Spectrum Warrior‘s lack of gameplay realism, and they won’t find much in the way of real depth and variety.
But it’s still ultimately worth checking out if you’re looking for something completely different.
#3. Kessen
- Release Data: Koei, 2000
- Genre: Strategy » Real-Time » General
Japanese history buffs will definitely love this game, and even novice players will appreciate the game, with its stunning visuals and sounds.
The only question is whether you are willing to sit down and play the game, with its continuously redundant nature.
#2. Ring of Red
- Release Data: Konami, 2001
- Genre: Strategy » Real-Time » General
Ring of Red is easily one of the best strategy games on the PS2, not to mention one of the more inventive to ever grace a console.
It should be a no-brainer for fans of the sorely underrepresented genre.
It’s a huge game that will easily consume a good deal of your time, and fortunately, its systems remain fresh throughout.
#1. GrimGrimoire
- Release Data: Vanillaware/Nippon Ichi Software, 2007
- Genre: Strategy » Real-Time » Command
It’ll take you a couple dozen hours to finish up the story, but you can return to any map you want once the mission is complete.
GrimGrimoire is a fun and terrific gem waiting to be discovered.
It may not be the most fully featured strategy game, but it’s brimming with magical wonder and is easily recommendable.
