We already published the list of best Dreamcast games of all time, now it’s time to discover the best Dreamcast platform games of all time.
With amazing titles available, the Dreamcast definitely has a great library of platform games.
So, if you’re a fan of both the Dreamcast and platform games, there’s a chance you’ll like this list.
And some of you may already know some of the games mentioned in this list.
#10. KAO the Kangaroo
- Release Data: X-Ray Interactive/Titus Software, 2001
- Genre: Action » Platformer » 3D
Were it not for the game’s imperfections, Titus would probably have the next Spyro the Dragon or Crash Bandicoot on its hands.
As such, the current game probably won’t satisfy those who’ve sampled everything the action-platform genre has to offer, but dabblers should find KAO‘s charming antics and approachable gameplay well suited to a weekend of lighthearted entertainment.
#9. Floigan Bros. Episode 1
- Release Data: Visual Concepts/Sega, 2001
- Genre: Action » Platformer » 3D
Floigan Brothers has a distinct look and a clever concept, but these are its only strengths, and they aren’t enough to support the rest of the game’s numerous flaws.
Even though the game is being marketed as a value title, it’s a tough game to recommend.
#8. Disney’s Donald Duck: Goin’ Quackers
- Release Data: Ubisoft Montreal/Ubisoft, 2000
- Genre: Action » Platformer » 3D
Many more experienced players will find they can cruise through the game in less than two hours.
And although Donald Duck: Goin’ Quackers is most definitely a kids’ game, but there’s enough going on in it that even older players could get a kick out of this simple yet attractive game.
#7. Super Magnetic Neo
- Release Data: Genki, 2000
- Genre: Action » Platformer » 3D
While hardly a perfect game, Super Magnetic Neo is a refreshing change from the developer’s usual fare and delivers an original and amusing diversion in the rather thin category of Dreamcast 3D platformers.
And despite its few frustrating control issues, Neo is a surprisingly polished product.
#6. Disney’s 102 Dalmatians: Puppies to the Rescue
- Release Data: Crystal Dynamics/Eidos Interactive, 2000
- Genre: Action » Platformer » 3D
Overall, this addition to the Disney family of games is good for kids and presents a long quest with plenty of secrets to unlock.
Younger children will be delighted to be at the controls, but seasoned gamers will want to look elsewhere for a more polished and challenging experience.
#5. Frogger 2: Swampy’s Revenge
- Release Data: Hasbro Interactive, 2000
- Genre: Action » Platformer » 3D
Frogger 2 is a worthy sequel, because it improves upon what worked in the original, downplays what didn’t work, and in the end delivers a game that is better than the original.
Unfortunately, while all the other pieces come together flawlessly, the lack of replay keeps the game from achieving greatness.
#4. Sonic Adventure 2
- Release Data: Sonic Team/Sega, 2001
- Genre: Action » Platformer » 3D
Sonic Adventure 2 is an addictive platform game, whose gifts beckon you to come back and enjoy its entertaining and fast-paced gameplay system.
And despite its flaws, Sonic Adventure 2 is easily a must-have game for fans of the platformer genre in general and the original Sonic games in particular.
#3. Sonic Adventure
- Release Data: Sonic Team/Sega, 1999
- Genre: Action » Platformer » 3D
Sonic Adventure is a must-have game for the Dreamcast, and it’s a blast for the entire twenty-odd hours of gameplay.
Fans of the Sonic series will definitely be pleased with Sonic Adventure—it truly carries and builds on the style of the original games.
Even with its flaws, Sonic Team has produced a 3D experience unlike any other.
#2. Jet Grind Radio
- Release Data: Smilebit/Sega, 2000
- Genre: Action » Platformer » 3D
Jet Grind Radio is a game full of redefinitions, forcing you to really rethink what you expect out of a game from an audio/visual standpoint while delivering some exciting, balanced gameplay at the same time.
It is one of those “something for everyone” games that really make a perfect addition to the Dreamcast library that no one should be without.
#1. Rayman 2: The Great Escape
- Release Data: Ubisoft Montpellier/Ubisoft, 2000
- Genre: Action » Platformer » 3D
In short, Rayman 2 is one of the best platforming experiences available on the Dreamcast.
By including a wonderfully humorous story, excellent game mechanics, and perfection in almost all other categories, Ubisoft has created a game that appeals to all types of gamers.
