So, if you’re a fan of both the GameCube and individual sports games, there’s a chance you’ll like this list.
And some of you may already know some of the games mentioned in this list.
#25. Tony Hawk’s American Wasteland
- Release Data: Neversoft Entertainment/Activision, 2005
- Genre: Sports » Individual » Skate / Skateboard
While the gameplay in Tony Hawk’s American Wasteland is still sharp, and the game still looks and sounds just fine, this seventh installment just seems to lack that special spark that made the series so much fun in the first place.
Definitely play this only if you’re a diehard fan of the genre.
#24. WWE Day of Reckoning 2
- Release Data: Yuke’s/THQ, 2005
- Genre: Sports » Individual » Combat » Wrestling
More focus on adding additional modes would have been nice, but considering how well this package handles and looks, you can call it an enjoyable follow-up.
Though some people may be disappointed by the fact that it isn’t a huge leap compared to the original, fans of the first game are certain to have a great time with the sequel.
#23. WWE WrestleMania XIX
- Release Data: Yuke’s/THQ, 2003
- Genre: Sports » Individual » Combat » Wrestling
As it stands, though games like Def Jam Vendetta and Ultimate Muscle: Legends vs. New Generation are technically better wrestling games, WrestleMania XIX is still one of the best WWE games available on the GameCube, and, consequently, any GameCube-owning WWE fan would do well to give it a shot.
#22. Disney’s Extreme Skate Adventure
- Release Data: Toys for Bob/Activision, 2003
- Genre: Sports » Individual » Skate / Skateboard
All in all, Disney’s Extreme Skate Adventure is a good game for younger players or Disney fans who also enjoy skateboarding games.
Disney’s Extreme Skate Adventure won’t hold the Tony Hawk’s players’ attention for long, but it’s still a fun, well-designed skating game.
#21. Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX 2
- Release Data: Z-Axis, Ltd./Acclaim, 2001
- Genre: Sports » Individual » Biking
If you can get past some of the issues, Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX 2 can be very fun.
You can pull of a vast amount of tricks and the stalls and modifiers just plain rule.
If you’re a freestyle BMX fan, you should probably pick up Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX 2.
#20. Ultimate Muscle: Legends vs New Generation
- Release Data: Aki Corp./Bandai, 2003
- Genre: Sports » Individual » Combat » Wrestling
It’s true that Ultimate Muscle isn’t for everyone.
The game’s high focus on timing and speed, coupled with its brutal AI, may prove to be a little too difficult for the more-casual fans.
However, anyone looking for an entertaining arcade-style wrestling experience will find plenty to like about Ultimate Muscle: Legends vs. New Generation and should absolutely check this game out.
#19. WWE Day of Reckoning
- Release Data: Yuke’s/THQ, 2004
- Genre: Sports » Individual » Combat » Wrestling
WWE Day of Reckoning is easily the most successful title to bring the action of the WWE to the GameCube.
The story mode, though perhaps a bit too linear, is still a humongous improvement over the previous game, and the overall improved gameplay and deep create-a-wrestler mode should be more than enough to keep any wrestling fan busy.
#18. Kelly Slater’s Pro Surfer
- Release Data: Treyarch/Activision, 2002
- Genre: Sports » Individual » Surf / Wakeboard
Kelly Slater’s Pro Surfer is a surfing game that exhibits a high level of quality in every facet of its execution.
Extreme sports fans looking for something totally original may be a bit disappointed, but Kelly Slater’s responsive control, consistently good visuals, and diverse gameplay will ensure that almost anyone will end up enjoying this game.
#17. Tiger Woods PGA Tour 06
- Release Data: EA Sports, 2005
- Genre: Sports » Individual » Golf » Sim
You will find success early and often in Tiger Woods PGA Tour 06, and though that may not sound like such a bad thing, it isn’t necessarily true to the spirit of the sport, where triumphs need to be earned, not simply offered to you for the taking.
#16. Mario Power Tennis
- Release Data: Camelot Software Planning/Nintendo, 2004
- Genre: Sports » Individual » Tennis
Mario Power Tennis is a shining example of Nintendo’s “family gaming” philosophy.
It’s such an expertly crafted, well-rounded package that it goes well beyond appealing to just Nintendo fans or to just tennis fans.
Instead, it’s a suitable game for players of all shapes and sizes.
#15. Knockout Kings 2003
- Release Data: EA Sports/Electronic Arts, 2002
- Genre: Sports » Individual » Combat » Boxing / Martial Arts
In the end, Knockout Kings 2003 is a great boxing game.
It’s not a simulation in the sense that it gives you the ability to do everything in the ring that real fighters do, like clinching, but it’s a simulation in the sense that the game simply delivers a terrific interpretation of the sport of boxing.
#14. SSX On Tour
- Release Data: EA Canada/EA Sports Big, 2005
- Genre: Sports » Individual » Ski / Snowboard
The subversive style of SSX On Tour is unlike anything the series has seen before, and it’s pretty unique in the overall world of video games.
The game expertly balances the fresh and the familiar and creates an experience that will have fans falling for SSX all over again, while bringing newcomers into the fold.
#13. Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour
- Release Data: Camelot Software Planning/Nintendo, 2003
- Genre: Sports » Individual » Golf » Arcade
When you stand back and look at Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour on its own terms, you’ll find an excellent game of golf that provides a different experience from that in other golf games on the market.
Toadstool Tour might stumble in a few minor areas, but it’s as good a reason as any to own a GameCube.
#12. Def Jam Vendetta
- Release Data: Aki Corp./EA Sports Big, 2003
- Genre: Sports » Individual » Combat » Wrestling
As a wrestling game, Def Jam Vendetta manages to succeed on most every level, providing surprisingly deep gameplay, quality graphics and sound, and a distinctive atmosphere.
And it is still strong enough in its execution to make it a perfect alternative for fans who have grown weary of the standard WWE-style games.
#11. Tony Hawk’s Underground 2
- Release Data: Neversoft Entertainment/Activision, 2004
- Genre: Sports » Individual » Skate / Skateboard
All in all, Tony Hawk’s Underground 2 is a strong skateboarding game, though if you’ve remained devoted to the series, you might not be so impressed with its changes.
Nevertheless, the gameplay remains fast, fluid, and exciting.
The visuals are, for the most part, pretty sharp, and the story mode is still fun to blast through.
#10. Fight Night Round 2
- Release Data: EA Sports, 2005
- Genre: Sports » Individual » Combat » Boxing / Martial Arts
There’s a lot to like about Fight Night Round 2, most obviously an involving boxing mechanic that allows you to be creative in your approach.
As a sequel to the well-received Fight Night 2004, the game improves on many aspects of its predecessor and ends up as one that will continually challenge your skills the longer you play it.
#9. Tony Hawk’s Underground
- Release Data: Neversoft Entertainment/Activision, 2003
- Genre: Sports » Individual » Skate / Skateboard
The core gameplay is still extremely entertaining, and some of the new additions, like being able to get off your board and execute wall plants, do make for some interesting, new possibilities.
All things considered, Tony Hawk’s Underground is another great installment in the franchise.
#8. Aggressive Inline
- Release Data: Z-Axis, Ltd./Acclaim, 2002
- Genre: Sports » Individual » Skate / Skateboard
Aggressive Inline is a success on several levels.
The large number of goals in the game vary in difficulty, giving newer players something to do while not skimping on the difficulty.
It also manages to take the gameplay and design concepts that have worked well in past games and give them enough of a face-lift to make the game feel new.
#7. SSX Tricky
- Release Data: EA Sports Big/Electronic Arts, 2001
- Genre: Sports » Individual » Ski / Snowboard
SSX Tricky for the GameCube features little to no improvements on the PS2 version, but that doesn’t keep it from being a blast to play.
The gameplay is hectic, the new trick system adds substantial depth, and the overall production is top-notch.
If you’re looking for a snowboarding game for your GameCube, it’s hard to go wrong with SSX Tricky.
#6. Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2005
- Release Data: EA Sports, 2004
- Genre: Sports » Individual » Golf » Sim
From strictly a bullet-point perspective, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2005 is a more full-featured game than the previous game, and it still stands as one of the best games of golf for the GameCube.
However, many of its improvements over the previous game feel kind of incremental, and owners of PGA Tour 2004 shouldn’t necessarily rush out to get it.
#5. Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 4
- Release Data: Neversoft Entertainment/Activision, 2002
- Genre: Sports » Individual » Skate / Skateboard
While fans of the previous games will find the redesigned career mode a little foreign at first, it definitely makes for a longer game with a lot less repetition than you saw in previous installments.
In short, anyone with even a remote interest in either the genre or the real-life sport should get this game as soon as possible.
#4. Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2004
- Release Data: EA Sports, 2003
- Genre: Sports » Individual » Golf » Sim
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2004 offers such a complete package, it almost seems like EA is painting itself into a corner.

- Genre: Sports » Individual » Golf » Sim
This entry in the Tiger Woods PGA golf franchise adds a bunch of new characters, 12 fantastic courses, and some great modes of play.

#2. Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3
- Release Data: Neversoft Entertainment/Activision, 2001
- Genre: Sports » Individual » Skate / Skateboard
This entry in the franchise introduced a few new game mechanics to utilize.
The new revert option allows you to keep a combo going longer, and new hidden combos encourage players to skate over all obstacles in the level.
This fantastic title gives players an infinitely replayable sandbox of skateboarding fun, so pick this one up if you haven’t.
#1. SSX 3
- Release Data: EA Canada/EA Sports Big, 2003
