We already published the list of best N64 games of all time, now it’s time to discover the best N64 sim racing games of all time.
With amazing titles available, the N64 definitely has a great library of sim racing games.
So, if you’re a fan of both the N64 and sim racing games, there’s a chance you’ll like this list.
And some of you may already know some of the games mentioned in this list.
#10. Monster Truck Madness 64
- Release Data: Edge of Reality/Rockstar Games, 1999
- Genre: Racing » Simulation » Automobile
The game hasn’t been hyped as a racer but it does feature racing elements, which, quite honestly, aren’t so great due to the fact that players are trying to control huge, sluggish monster trucks.
However, the battle modes and in particular Summit Rumble, more than make up for any shortcomings the game might have in other departments.
#9. Off Road Challenge
- Release Data: Avalanche Software/Midway, 1998
- Genre: Racing » Simulation » Automobile
The N64 version is not necessarily a bad port, as it’s basically a carbon copy of the arcade.
And it’s certainly not the worse game on the N64.
However, the only group who will get any enjoyment out of it is Cruis’n USA fans.
#8. Rally Challenge 2000
- Release Data: Genki/Imagineer, 2000
- Genre: Racing » Simulation » Automobile
Rally Challenge 2000 is a decent arcade-style racing game, but the lack of additional cars and tracks to unlock, coupled with unrealistic controls, makes it hard for any gamer to take this game seriously.
Rally Challenge 2000 succeeds on some levels and fails on others, but on the whole, it does a good job of being a party game.
#7. F1 Pole Position 64
- Release Data: Human Entertainment, 1997
- Genre: Racing » Simulation » Automobile
As a whole, F1 Pole Position 64 probably only will appeal to F1 fans.
Video game aficionados who like extraordinary physics and power-slides need not apply.
Those who actually like the sport, on the other hand, will want to give it a shot but should realize this is not the greatest racing game ever.
#6. NASCAR 99
- Release Data: Stormfront Studios/EA Sports, 1998
- Genre: Racing » Simulation » Automobile
What NASCAR 99 does bring to the table is a realistic, addictive, intense racing experience that can be tailor-made to the tastes of any racing fan.
Moreover, NASCAR 99 is a realistic N64 racing game that actually has a good two-player mode with plenty of computer competition.
#5. Top Gear Rally 2
- Release Data: Saffire/Kemco, 1999
- Genre: Racing » Simulation » Automobile
Top Gear Rally 2 makes some definite improvements over the original, and while it doesn’t cater to all the realism that hardcore rally fans expect, it certainly proves to be a good little racer.
Overall, casual fans of multiterrain racing will be pleased with the simplistic layout and complete upgrade system.
#4. Monaco Grand Prix
- Release Data: Ubisoft, 1999
- Genre: Racing » Simulation » Automobile
For arcade players looking for a quick, dirty, one-night-stand racing game, this one may prove to be too serious – but it’s still good enough.
For simulation players looking for a long-term commitment of months, and perhaps years, add this title to the list of games that fulfill racing needs to the maximum.
#3. Top Gear Rally
- Release Data: Boss Game Studios/Kemco, 1997
- Genre: Racing » Simulation » Automobile
Top Gear Rally is a great game and stands out among a crowded N64 racing library.
The years have not been kind to its visuals but its gameplay remains solid.
With a little more content Top Gear Rally could have been truly special as there is a lot to like.
#2. F-1 World Grand Prix
- Release Data: Paradigm Entertainment/Nintendo, 1998
- Genre: Racing » Simulation » Automobile
Good control and driver AI highlight a realistic racer that only seems to suffer in one area: smoothness.
If you’re obsessed about graphics and can’t take an overall lower framerate, or you’re not sure that realism is what you want in a racer, you might want to think twice—but F1 and sim racing fans, don’t even think. Get it.
#1. World Driver Championship
- Release Data: Boss Game Studios/Midway, 1999
- Genre: Racing » Simulation » Automobile
All in all, World Driver Championship stands proud as a game which offers a deep, challenging racing experience often overlooked in favor of several pretenders on the console, and can comfortably tongue-tie any detractor of the Nintendo 64’s graphical capabilities.
