I get it.
You’re new to this ‘cosplay’ thing and you want to participate in it.
But you’re a beginner, and you don’t want a fancy cosplay set that requires hundreds of hours and thousands of money.
You want something simple, something that you can just buy and wear with ease.
I got you covered, here are the best easy cosplay ideas for beginners (for guys and girls).
1. Kylo Ren – Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2017)
It used to be Darth Vader, but now people are more drawn to this new antagonist character on the latest Star Wars trilogy.
It’s absolutely easy to be Kylo Ren, all you have to do is wear the costume, wield the lightsaber, and wear the mask for absolute perfection.
But maybe you want to wear a wig if your hair is not that long, but that isn’t necessary.
No need to paint your body, no need to use any ‘body armor’, and certainly no need to use hair styling gel.
If you share the same (or similar) story with Kylo Ren, I bet you’re going to rock with this cosplay set.
2. Jon Snow – Game of Thrones season 7 (2017)
If you love Game of Thrones, Jon Snow is one of the remaining of everybody’s favorite characters.
He’s brave, he’s good, he’s good-looking, and he’s short. Yes, he’s short.
And you know what? Most guys can be Jon Snow easily.
You just need to put on the costume and the robe, wield his sword, and maybe bring a really big white wolf named Ghost.
If you know nothing, or if you died once, you might be a good fit for cosplaying as Jon Snow.
3. Anakin Skywalker – Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones (2002)
This is it. This is him before he became the infamous Darth Vader, the one that started it all.
This is Darth Vader when he was young, good-looking, and didn’t have the higher ground.
If you want to look badass and good looking, look no more, Anakin Skywalker is the perfect character for you.
You just have to wear the Jedi robe and wield a lightsaber. That’s it.
But if you want to get more detailed, maybe get his ‘distinctive’ haircut too.
4. Ant-Man – Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018)
Not many people choose to be Ant-Man, and that is an advantage for you.
Since Infinity War, the hype of Ant-Man’s whereabouts is making this character more famous.
If you love the movies, or if you a big fan of Paul Rudd, being an Ant-Man might be a great thing to do.
Fortunately, his costume is beginner-friendly. No need to use paint or wig, and definitely, there is no need to grow a beard.
Just wear the costume and the mask, wield the gun, and maybe have some white sugar in your pocket.
You know, to call your army of ants.
5. Deadpool – Deadpool 2 (2018)
If you want a privilege to do reckless or pervert things at any convention, Deadpool is the perfect character for you.
Yes, I’ve seen it on the internet. Too many times.
If a guy wears a Deadpool cosplay costume, he can do anything he wants, including touching and sniffing the body parts of the opponent sex.
After all, it’s easy to be Deadpool. Just wear the costume, wear the mask, and for more details maybe bring a pair of (fake) katanas and a pair of (fake) handguns.
Don’t forget to drink an energy drink, to make sure you’re fully energized and become hyperactive (just kidding LOL).
6. Edward Kenway – Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag (2013)
Why not Ezio? Why Edward?
Well, first, Ezio cosplay has become too saturated. Every Assassin’s Creed fan wants to be Ezio.
But you want to stand out, right? That’s why I choose Edward for this list.
He’s badass, he can dive, he can shoot with two pistols, and he wields two swords at the same time. Also, he’s the captain of a pirate ship. What else can you ask from this guy?
Just wear the Assassin’s costume, wield the dual sword and dual guns, and don’t forget the dual hidden blade.
7. Star-Lord – Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017)
Yeah, I know. Some of us are mad for what he did in Infinity War.
He’s reckless and doesn’t think much. But he’s caring and he’s funny.
And he did what he did because of love. You can’t blame love for that.
Not only that, it’s really simple to Star-Lord. Just wear the jacket and pants, plus a mask and a pair of laser guns.
If you consider yourself funny, or if you have a raccoon friend that can talk, then this is the cosplay meant for you.
8. Black Panther – Captain America: Civil War (2016)
Here it is. One of the most unusual superheroes of the decade.
Most superheroes are usually from the USA and living in the big cities, but this one originated from a fictional country in the African continent.
Not only that, he’s also a king and his country possesses a highly advanced technology—absolutely unusual, right?
Moreover, you can be the Black Panther easily. Just wear the suit and the mask, and you’re ready to go.
And I need to warn you, the cosplay costume isn’t made of vibranium, so it’s not bulletproof.
9. Loki – Thor: Ragnarok (2017)
Superhero is overrated. There, I said it.
Why do you want to be a superhero when you can be a charming villain like Loki?
In Thor: Ragnarok, this guy’s outfit is absolutely stylish and resemblance a good sense of fashion, no doubt.
Do you want everybody to kneel before you? Wear his outfit and you’ll feel his power.
It’s easy and any beginner could wear it. Just a costume, a helmet with a pair of horns, and you’re good to go.
10. Orson Krennic – Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016)
If you watched Rogue One, you know that this guy is all about persistence, loyalty, and ambition.
Another antagonist, this one is absolutely a perfect choice for those who want to be different from the hundreds of Darth Vaders and Storm Troopers out there.
The outfit is simple and easy, any guy could wear this and will look like someone in charge.
What I like about this character is that he’s really smart, like a genius.
By the way, he was the one responsible for the development and construction of the Empire’s enormous Death Star superweapon. He’s a really cool antagonist, I must say.
1. Rey – Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2017)
She’s tough, she’s brave, but most importantly she can use the force.
If you feel like your story is similar to hers, why not dress as her at the next convention?
I bet you’ll find a lot of Kylo Rens too, and it can be a good moment to take a photo together.
The outfit is simple, and you just need to wield a quarterstaff replica or a lightsaber to be more precise.
And you might want to bring your own BB-8 droid too.
2. Daenerys Targaryen a.k.a. Khaleesi – Game of Thrones season 7 (2017)
If you know her full title, you’re a good candidate for cosplaying her.
Here’s her full title, by the way:
Daenerys of the House Targaryen, the First of Her Name, The Unburnt, Queen of the Andals, the Rhoynar and the First Men, Queen of Meereen, Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea, Protector of the Realm, Lady Regnant of the Seven Kingdoms, Breaker of Chains and Mother of Dragons.
Fortunately, her outfit isn’t as intimidating as her titles. It’s really simple actually, for a person with so much power.
You just need to wear the costume, and maybe a wig, and the baby dragons replicas.
3. Padmé Amidala – Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones (2002)
Remember when Natalie Portman played as her in the second Star Wars trilogy?
I remember. She was absolutely stunning and beautiful in her costumes.
While some of her outfits are not easy and simple, this one is absolutely doable for beginners.
It’s simple yet elegant, and I bet guys will drools over you if you wear this costume.
Go get it, you won’t regret it. I swear. Every guy loves Padme.
4. The Wasp – Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018)
If your boyfriend is cosplaying as the Ant-Man, why don’t you cosplay as The Wasp?
She’s smart, brave, and sexy. And she’s terrible at playing hide and seek.
You can wear the same costume and helmet from the same manufacturer that made the Ant-Man cosplay set.
The costume may be a little bit price, but hey, you get the whole package, except for the helmet.
The helmet is turn out to be pretty good, as they use colored lights for more accurate depiction.
5. Maleficent – Maleficent (2014)
Most girls want to be princesses, but if you want to be evil and powerful, you should consider Maleficent for your cosplay ideas.
This one is taken from the Angelina Jolie’s version of Maleficent, a movie where the bad guys aren’t really that bad and the good guys aren’t really that good.
You don’t need any props with this one, because it’s a full package.
You’ll get the costume and the horn-shaped headpiece. It’s really practical, to be honest.
And if you want to bring your own crow, it’s okay too.
6. Wonder Woman – Wonder Woman (2017)
Since the release of the Gal Gadot’s version of the movie, a lot of girls wants to be Wonder Woman.
I mean, yeah, she’s really beautiful and stunning in the movie, and I prefer her version over the previous ones.
Not only that, Wonder Woman is also the role model of modern women, being strong and independent yet caring and willing to sacrifice herself.
This costume is a little bit tricky because you need to wear the costume, the boots, the sword, the tiara, and the whip (Lasso of Truth).
Fortunately, all of them are available to buy on Amazon at a decent price.
7. Cinderella – Cinderella (2015)
This one was taken from the live-action version of Cinderella (2015) with Lily James as Cinderella.
For girls that like to wear gorgeous dresses, this is a perfect choice since your childhood fantasy of becoming a Disney Princess will come true.
But sorry, no fairy godmother will magically make this dress for you, but you can buy this one from Amazon.
Wear this and see people will stare at you and maybe asking you to dance with them.
Just don’t forget to wear a pair of fitting shoes, ’cause you know, nobody will look for you based on your shoe anymore.
8. Black Widow – Avengers: Infinity War (2018)
She’s badass, she’s hot, she’s smart, and she’s a member of The Avengers.
Since her first appearance on Iron Man 2, this lady right here is getting a lot of attention from the male of the human species.
Or…if you like a spandex suit, or someone does *wink*, then this costume would be perfect for you.
The costume is simple, just wear it and maybe wear a wig or dye your hair red (or orange?) and you’ll be good.
Don’t forget the handgun if you want to be more accurate.
9. Melisandre a.k.a. The Red Woman – Game of Thrones season 7 (2017)
I don’t know whether she’s good or bad, but what I know is that she’s quite beautiful for a woman her age.
She also not afraid of using her power to kill people and do f*cked up shits to accomplish her missions.
And as long as you don’t mention her REAL appearance, people will perceive you as that hot witch from Game of Thrones.
If you’re a redhead, good, then this one is a piece of cake. But if you’re not, you can still wear a wig or dye your hair red.
Moreover, the outfit is absolutely simple, it’s just a dress and a cloak, and maybe you want to wear that magical necklace.
10. Belle – Beauty and the Beast (2017)
It is hard for a guy to cosplay as the Beast, but it’s the other way around with girls cosplaying as Belle.
Well, this one is not Belle in her beautiful gown, but Belle as a regular Belle from the live-action movie starring Emma Watson.
Maybe you’re wondering, why not recommend the yellow gown? It’s more elegant, right?
Correct. But if you’re a beginner, you want something simple, something that will not restrict your movement.
This one is absolutely practical, try and feel it, you’ll be the bookworm Belle in no time.
There, I give you 20 easy cosplay ideas for beginners, complete with the links where you can buy online.
If you’re a couple, the #1, #2, #3, and #4 of each list is a good option.
I would personally go with the Anakin Skywalker cosplay costume because it’s practical and will not restrict your movement.
Also, being Anakin Skywalker means you can bring a lightsaber wherever you go.
